Actually, the Tiptronic is advertised as **.7** seconds slower than the manual transmission at 0-100kmh (a HUGE amount when talking about sub 5 second cars). You don't have to be a professional driver to get the added advantage of a traditional manual transmission. You just have to know how to speedshift in the correct power range. Besides, in most Tiptronic systems or their variants, the gearing and final drive ratios are different also and thus detract from the potential 0-100kmh or 0-60mph figures.

: : Thomas, after reading the latest Motor Trend magazine (May issue), I have to disagree with you about where you place the Z8. Its performance is up there with the top supercars in the world. In their tests it was 5th overall of all the cars they've ever tested 0-100-0. It easily puts an MB SL and Porsche Carrera to shame in performance.

: Well, performance is not everything, and the differences we can see there do not really matter the slightest bit except from a theoretical point of view. Besides, if performance matters, compare the new 4wd Porsche Turbo with Tiptronic s. No average driver will even come close to its 0-60 performance with an old-fashioned manual like we have in the Z8. Additionally, each of its competitors is way better equipped (not to mention the incredible low-tech-top).
: Not to be mistaken - I like the Z8, it is sexy, I want it and I pay for it. But if you take a close look at the SLR you will discover there is actually nothing to compare.
