I agree with Jim, it doesn't take 0.8 for me either. But we are also using syncro gearing. I assume the the time to shift without it, al la formula cars, is a few tenths longer going up, and a few more going down with double clutch.

: According to Porsche's site the Tiptronic is slower 0-99mph by 1.4 seconds, and 50-75 mph flexibility by 1.0 seconds. Also, I can GUARANTEE it doesn't take me .8 seconds to shift from one gear to the next (as a matter of fact, I don't think .4 seconds is as fast as I can shift from 1st to second and that is the only shift I have to make to 60mph, and I'm sure that most standard transmission "sports" drivers would concurr).

: : : Actually, the Tiptronic is advertised as **.7** seconds slower than the manual transmission at 0-100kmh (a HUGE amount when talking about sub 5 second cars). You don't have to be a professional driver to get the added advantage of a traditional manual transmission. You just have to know how to speedshift in the correct power range. Besides, in most Tiptronic systems or their variants, the gearing and final drive ratios are different also and thus detract from the potential 0-100kmh or 0-60mph figures.

: : It is in fact 0.7, but even then the Turbo is still at 4.9sec 0-60mph.
: : Besides, the loss of performance is only on the first feet from start. In all other situations it outperforms the manual quite stressless. Changing gears only takes 0.4 sec (which is only half the time a manual needs). There is no way you can even come close to that performance with a conventional gearbox.
