We have constant comparisons with lots of cars, old and current. If your comparison made sense by itself, why would anyone buy a 911 Cabriolet when they could save 10s of thousands of dollars and buy a Boxter S. The folks at Porsche seem to know differently. What would be your guess? Better quality? Better Performance?

If your logic were true, BMW owners should stick with M Roadsters which beat your Boxter S on performance and price. We have one contributor who has driven the Z8 and would trade BOTH his MZ3 & a 740 for the Z8. Guess there are intrinsic values that don’t show on a set of statistics.

As to safety, there is no question that convertibles are more dangerous than a sedan or coupe. So where are the rollbars on the 911 Cabriolet? From my perspective, you can’t stop livin’ for fear of dyin’. I’m just a top down kind of guy. Drive your hard top if that is what makes you comfortable. An M5 would be nice.

: How come you guys can't just get a Boxster S.
: The porsche looks better, almost as fast, and it is a mid engine car. Anyway in a convertible why you need to go that fast, it is the open top driving that we all love. I mean if you want a good handling and fast car, why not get a e46 M3 or 911. Convertibles are very dangerous to drive fast.
