The Z8 has the same 400 hp motor as the M5. There is no plans to change that motor during the 3 year production run. What your dealer may be referring to is the “rumor” that after the production of the Z8 ceases, BMW will introduce a “consumer” version with many similar features, on a mass production basis.
Availability
The current offer price between dealers is $200K. Dealers in CA are asking $225 at retail. How long this will go on, or whether the price will go up or down is a matter of speculation. Many opinions have been expressed on the board. If you want one, and have a couple of pounds of your dot.com stock to liquidate, you can get a car.
Production
There is currently only one set of tools to make the car. Approximately 375 cars will come to the USA in the first 12 months. Tools are good for approximately 1500 cars, and so far BMW says no more after that. Major US dealers get 9-10 over the three year run. The smallest will get 1. Based on the production week for those of us who have serial numbers for our cars, they are producing an average of two per work day. Works out to the same 500 per year, 1500 total.
