The “speculation” about subsequent models comes from the dealers I know. Their view is that many of the technologies developed for this car will show up on later models. There is also a hole left on the product line, when they stopped the 840s and 850s that will be filled to remain completive with MB’s SL line.

What will the models have? Kidney grills, side “Gills,” Xenon & Neon. A new 6 line is coming too. Thomas G. shared this link several months ago:

I don’t think that BMW will cheapen the Z8, rather I “hope” that they will build on it’s success to put more great cars on the road at more reasonable prices. A new 8 series in the 90s would be a nice addition to the line IMHO.

: Hi Bob
: Back in April you said about BMW losing money in this limited production run vehicle:
: This is a marketing strategy to get High end buyers into the BMW dealers and it sets the stage for the $80-$100K "SL" buyers to buy the later mass produced
: version that will replace the 850
: Bob "

: What can you tell us about a later mass produced version to replace the 850? Is there a possibility of mass production of something identical or very similar to the Z8 in appearance? That would be a shame if it cheapens the appeal of the original Z8, don't you think?
