For the most part I agree with Minimarvel. Clearly BMW has the technology to make an automatic top if they want to. My main gripe come from my current experience with my M Roadster. If you drive the car, top down as I intend 98% percent of the time, one needs to have the torneau cover on. If you have to put the top up for whatever reason, the damn cover has to go somewhere. Tiny trunks are unhappy places, when an overnight bag, or the day's shopping is there already.

As to the last four inches, that only counts in personal relationships.
