Bob, this is the third time I have tried to post the whole message!

There was another Z8 at the dealer(150 miles) when I took mine in for the first service. This too had the problem, especially when hot. Listen to the motor just as it fires on starting. I am told that it can be a problem in Alloy engines so it should be addressed. BMW is investigating.

The Wind screen works well, apart from obscuring the rear view,(for the sake of asthetics) even with the roof down. Two zippers fix this problem with the roof up, allowing you to lower the center section.

The dealer also found a fault with the electronic steering lock. They ordered another one for fitment next service. If it doesn't last that long I will just have to drive round in circles! Perhaps a good opportunity to borrow a "G" meter from someone:-)

Back to pinking problem...what octane fuel do you use. The US number is fine...I can convert.

The Hard top stand is color coded? Also it comes in a box that just fits the boot without a fraction spare. Looks like someone thought about getting it back from the dealer...clever those Germans:-)

Regards David

Is the rack for your roof a BMW product or aftermarket?
