I agree with your critcism of the Z3. However, using the 507 as a starting point, the Z8 has a much more rooted in history basis. I agree with the other poster, I dont think the Z8 will look dated in several years time. Its often hard to tell, but heres my thinking:

I remember when the Ferrari 308 came out, it looked great. I remember the same for the Testarossa and even the Lambo Countach. Today all of these cars look dated (in my opinion). I also remember when the Porsche 959 was in the mags (never really came out here in the USA). Well today the 959 still looks good. Classic British cars still look good- and perhaps you can date them, but they dont look "dated".

This is not to say that the Italian cars are not beautiful- they are. But my opinion is that the Z8s styling, by not being so sleek and modern looking will remain "classic" looking while a car like the 360 will not age as gracefully.

Ive seen people react to both cars and believe it or not, the more positive reaction is to the Z8. I figured it'd be to the Ferrari but I was wrong!

This isnt to say that the Z8 is perfect. Its not- but then "perfection" is all a matter of opinion. In my opinion, there are some plastic elements that BMW would be well to replace, but they look fine and they feel fine also.

You could pick on the lack of convience features, the cup holder is a total afterthought and unplesant for passengers. the radio does not really offer the best fidelity and the navigation system is much harder to use than any other one I have ever tried b/c of the small screen and small buttons. Other Bimmers have all kinds of data (MPG, avg speed, etc) and this one doesnt. As to comfort- the seats are very comfortable and supportive but the car itself isn't meant for 10 hour drives- although Id be more than happy to do it.

The Z8 is about the enjoyment of driving. If you enjoy to drive, forget the gadgets and cupholders. I promise if you drive the Z8 or even ride in one, you'll forget your worries. My opinion, its a modern day classic.
