the "pause" comes at the end of the shift when I floor it.

In your example, Bob, are you in a turn? The EDC is using lateral acceleration as its primary input, so I guess you would have to be. And I assumed the effect would feel like the engine staying at speed after lifting off throttle, so in your example, I guess the effect begins as you begin your shift and momentarily lift off throttle for that. Does that describe what you feel?

Occassionaly when shifting from third or fourth, wind out to 6,000+, fast shift with immediate full throttle, there is a slight hesitation of pause of pehaps 1/4 of a second.

In BMW Power magazine, Fall 2000edition, Z8Tech article:
"DSC3 can be switched off, but one of its components, Engine Drag Control, cannot. Using the DSC lateral acceleration sensor, EDC limits the abruptness of the throttle closing to prevent lift-throttle oversteer" This would appear to be a good thing given the fact that the throttles can go from completely closed to completely open in 120 mSec. I presume that they also close as quickly, resulting in a very rapid shutdown of engine torque if you completely lift off throttle in a corner. So the EDC would likely be a very useful addition to save the car from getting light in the rear end in those situations.

Can any of you owners sense the functioning of the EDC system?
