The oil and filter are NOT changed at 1,200 miles. Several of us had it done anyway.

Early M5 motors are eating a quart of oil every 700-800 miles. 2nd generation motors use a different weight of oil and mine seems to be burning less than a quart for 1,500 miles (my Z8 has 2,700 miles and is 75% of a quart down from full). My M Roadster burns a quart every 1,500.

With any "M" IMHO you should check the oil each time you fill up the tank.

Hi,
Serviced at 1,260 miles. I am assuming the oil was changed and filled to correct level.

Amber 'oil-can' indicator lights up at 2,200 (approx).
Had oil levels checked, indicator was correct, levels were LOW. I am feeling a little 'uneasy' about this.

I have been told that the car would use a little oil because the piston-ring pressure against the cylinder walls had been reduced, which allows the engine to produce an extra 50 BHP. However, I consider this level of usage to be unacceptable.

Does anyone else have comment of the subject ? Please let me know.

HARDTOP is now fitted and, well, the car looks magnificaent, really. I hope to publish some pics soon. I am so pleased though.
Adam.
