depending on the position of the column adjustment. But mine sounds like leather on leather. Sort of the same sound from a harness or gun belt. goes away when I move the wheel in or out. Not rattle.

Glad to hear positive things about the hard top. Just to update the oil situation- after I posted I checked the oil and for the first time I noticed it dropped slightly below the high mark on the dip-stick.

Have you ever noticed a kind of ratteling noise that seems to be where the speedo would normally be (right behind the steering wheel) when you hit some bumpy road? I notice this sometimes on particularly bad roads when the soft top is up- but not when it is down. Im trying to figure out what this could be.
