Hello fellow Z8ers. I thought I would relay an experience I had recently. The roads where I am are not the greatest and over some of the poorer ones, I could hear a metallic clinking sound that seemed to come from behind the dash somewhere in the steering column. I brought this to the attention of the service advisor at the dealership. They took a look at the car and their belief is that it is something to do with the turn signal mechanicism. They found a very easy to perform remedy. You see, Im not the tallest person in the world and I had the steerling wheel all the way in with regard to the telescoping feature. If you just slide the steering wheel out- even 1/2 an inch the noise is gone. My dealer informed me that someone from NA was there and they verified that this noise occurs in other cars on poor road surfaces. So here is a zero cost- zero maintence remedy. They also tell me there is nothing mechanically wrong and this remedy makes the most sense since its expedient. You cynics out there could say- this car shouldnt have any issues- well, rattles and creaks always happen in cars- especially ones with hard suspensions- and so long as theres nothing mechanically wrong and I can eliminate the annoying rattles, Im happy.
