Bill you make some nice points, but as with anything, the demand and the supply forces a product to either be sold for less than expected or in the case of the z8 more.
The blood supply?
It's a car, not bread, water, the blood supply or air.We can all live without it. Morality has nothing to do with this.If BMW priced the z8 too exorbitantly for me, I would simply not buy it, because I do not need it to live.

I feel that you are being a little hard on those that have chosen to speculate. I for one, am buying the z8 for non-speculative purposes.
The 'moral' supply and demand you speak about I have yet to see in the business world. When I last tried to buy a ferrari the wait was almost 2 1/2 years and the dealer basically made it clear that he could sell the car above list and therefore had no reason to give me a deal.
No manufacturer is a saint either. They make their cars and they sell them at a profit. If BMW had a way to forsee the demand the z8 currently has, you can rest assure it would have been priced higher.
If BMW is building them for the customers, Maybe we can eliminate the middlemen (dealers), and buy directly from the factory. It wouldn't work, because we only buy cars once in a while, but the dealers, move those cars for BMW daily.
Any Product is only worth what the market will bear. Any any perceived value in a product is based on the value given to that product by its owners or owners to be.
I agree with you on the fact that those who are speculating are taking a risk, but if the demand for the z8 continues then they stand to make quite a bit.
I am one of the fortunate few that were able to get the z8 at MSRP, which considering the markup is a deal. However, with my resources, I probably would have paid more to a certain point, at which point I would have walked away.
Lighten up a little Bill. These guys are just trying to make a buck off a non-critical product.

>Dear Sir. Please understand when I made reference to Lambo or Ferrari, I was not speaking of supply and demand. Rather I was saying that for that amount of money I could get a much better value. As to your "holding" your Z8 for an increase in value, you may not have been around in 1988 when BMW M5's when selling over list. Then BMW tried something improper and lost a class action suit and had to give each original buyer about $2,500. Also, do you remember the 850 series? A lot of people cleaned up on those. Now to the main issue, I think you're confusing supply and demand with capitalism. I would like to have the blood supply and have you need some during surgery. There is such a thing as Moral Supply and Demand not to be confused with capitalism. I am not suggesting that those people who wish to speculate sholdn't be allowed to. If you lived in Russia, not exactly your ideal capitalist society, if you had money you could buy things. What has that got to do with capitalism? The fact is these are automobiles that BMW is building for the customers not for the speculators. And the fact that they are going to import many more to dilute the price is evidence they don't want to be a party to it.
