Your intuition is right. What you are feeling is sometimes called "tramlining" and it is due to the wide front tires not always "sitting" perfectly flat on a non flat road surface, so they try to find a place that they can rest flat- and you notice this through the steering. This will be the case with nearly all performance cars, as they all have wide tires. How much of a sensation you feel depends on many factors. This is the "downside" of having a high performance car.
Well, it's nice to hear that there is likely nothing 'broken' about my new car. Going further with the educated guesssing, I would think that the reason I feel more pull to the right than to the left is because most roads are crowned and we drive on the right side, hence more opportunities for bias to the right side.
Its curious that my 540i6 with fairly wide tires doesn't demonstrate any of this effect. It, however, has entirely different steering design and is tuned for luxury, so I'm not really surprised at this difference.
