Your intuition is right. What you are feeling is sometimes called "tramlining" and it is due to the wide front tires not always "sitting" perfectly flat on a non flat road surface, so they try to find a place that they can rest flat- and you notice this through the steering. This will be the case with nearly all performance cars, as they all have wide tires. How much of a sensation you feel depends on many factors. This is the "downside" of having a high performance car.
