I'm just visiting from the Z3 board and thought I'd add to your discussion.
BMW does in fact listen. They also sometimes monitor these boards. My MZ3 slipped out of 2nd gear once and I posted about it. I received a follow-up phone call from BMW. They read my post, looked me up using their customer records and called me at work. They also contacted my dealer who called me a couple of days later to schedule an inspection.
Another owner was looking for help disconnecting his passenger airbag. BMW posted a very detailed response discouraging that.
They do take serious issues seriously. Minor complaints receive much less attention but I've noted some mid model year improvements aimed at minor issues. So, it isn't completely fair to say that BMW doesn't listen.
Unfortunately, plastic rear windows require maintenance. It is beyond me why a 20k Miata has a glass window and the BMW roadsters don't. When my car was new, the rear window fogged up weekly. Parking in direct sunlight accelerated this. To keep the rear window clear, you need to polish both sides of it frequently. Recommended products are:
For removing fine scratches - Meguiar's Clear Plastic Cleaner #17
For restoring clarity - Meguiar's Clear Plastic Polish #10
If the Meguiar's polish doesn't clear the fogged window, there may be a defect.
