Price versus desire (archive)

I could have waited on my local dealer here on Long Island and purchased the Z8 for about $10K over list. But I would have waited a minimum of 8 months. But the Z8 was a gift to myself after selling my high tech business after 13 years. At that point money was less important than buying it NOW and getting to enjoy it. So each of us have a different mental tradeoff. I paid $35K over list, NY ax at 8.5% and a luxury tax to boot - and drove away ripped off and happy as a pig in shit !!!

I placed my Z8 order a while back. But I had heard from several BMW dealers that there was no way I would get my Z8 at list...My car would be sold for >$200k without my even knowing it was what they said.
Well - even though I live in Texas, I placed an order for a black/crema-black Z8 with Orr BMW in Shreveport Louisana. It was the only place I could find who would sell me one at list. I had a feeling that since they don't know me from Adam and they know I am not in a position to buy a lot of cars from them, that when push came to shove they would sell it to someone else.
But it turns out I was pleasantly surprised. One day they called me and said it was ready. I got on a flight to Shreveport and picked it up. Them I drove the 350 miles to Austin and had a great time.
It's rare that I am pleasantly surprised by car salesmen but these guys are the real deal. No nonsense and no tricks. And my Z8 is awesome. One of these days I will drive it into the original smart-ass dealer (who shall renaain nameless and said how naiive I was wanting it at list price) and buy a set of floor mats ;-)
By the way -- as everyone else on the board has commented..the car is awesome.
