I can't believe BMW are aware of this problem on earlier vehicles only to allow it to be inherited by current models. F@@kin A@sholes !! My next car won't be a BMW, they don't deserve my loyalty.

Gummi-Pledge -thanks for that, I will give it a go bu, question: does it cause the windows to smear/smudge ?

Regards
Adam.

Hi Adam,

Like father, like son! Believe it or not, there are still similarities between the Z8, and its 10 year old sibling (or relative) the BMW 8-series. One of the similarities is that the windows must go up and down a half-inch on both cars while opening and closing the door. On the 850, this really helps to reduce overall wind-noise to virtually 0db. However, as you mentioned, there is a significant set-back to this feature. That is if the windows get wet (ie. in the rain or after the car is washed) and the temperature outside drops below zero, the windows will freeze to the door seals, pretty much locking you out of your vehicle. This has happened to me on several occasions and it is extremely agitating.

As a result, I researched the problem and found out that BMW sells a product for about $10 called Gummi-Pledge. This product works really well in preventing the windows from freezing to the door-seals. I believe that if you apply this regularly (probably once every two weeks or once a month) your problem will be solved.

Good luck,

I hope this helps,

MP

This is great .....

Leave your Z8 outside on a very cold night with a hard-frost and guess-what ... ? You can't open the doors in the morning !!

To open the Z8 doors, it is necessary for the windows to drop-down 1 cm or so. Unfortunately if it's cold, like it occassionally can be in Britain, the windows freeze up and you can't open the f@@king doors !!!!!!!!!!!

Even using antifreeze to de-ice the window doesn't always do the trick and when it does, it takes a while to work.

It's a joke, last weekend, it took me 15 minutes to open the doors of my luxury top of the range BMW sports car.

The only solution that I can see is to have window heaters fitted to kick-in when the remote is used to unlock the doors.

The problem appears to be at the bottom of the window, at the rubber sill. If there is any condensation, it freezes solid in the cold.

Comments please (don't suggest I put the car in a nice warm garage)

Regards
Adam.
