We had a fast snow blizzard last night which dumped 2 inches of snow within a couple of hours. I didn't expect it to start until late at night so I took the car to the office. Boy was that a mistake. With a little ice on the road and some powdered snow above it, THE CAR CAN'T BE DRIVEN! You HAVE TO shut off the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system or it turns off all power to you wheels if the tires are skidding in the snow (you can give it gas and the tac stays at idle). But when you turn off DSC and you are on any incline at all, the tires just spin and the car just sits there! Vehicles, inclusing other sports cars were passing left and right, but the Z8 didn't go anywhere! Had to call BMW to flatbed it back home (which, BTW BMW roadside assistance does not cover because of snow - even though I was not stuck in a snow bank or anything - just unable to get up any slight hills on the road). Oh - another aside - DON'T let the police push you off the road even if they have rubber bumpers on the car. While waiting for the tow truck they insisted that they can't allow the car to sit on the side of the service road of a highway and demanded to push the car into a parking lot. MISTAKE. Now I have to deal with the gash they left in the aluminum. I guess I better take the HUMMER to work the next time it snows.

Sorry, but even to try driving on snow and ice without good snow tires is just dumb.
I got some on mine and no problems at all on any kind of snowy surfaces.
Why the heck do soooo many people insist on making each and every experience themselves...

cu, tg
