I also live in NorCal(San Jose). The rain has kept me from driving also. I went to Stevens Creek BMW and bought the auto-shutoff charger. I keep it plugged in now when not in use. I am going to not plug it in this week while I am out of town and see if the battery drops its charge, If it does I'll have the dealer order me a new battery.

I recently purchased a 2001 Z8. It currently has 175 miles on it. I went to start it the other day and the battery was dead. I called the dealer and was told that "this is a normal occurance for this car if you don't start or drive it regularly". I hadn't started it in about a week. They said that the computers on the car are a constant drain on the battery, They then sold me an auto shut-off charger. Has anyone else heard of or experienced this problem??

I've had my Z8 for about two months and since it is the monsoon season here in NorCal (sigh!), it is not unusual for it to sit for 2 weeks without being started. No problems so far. I recently bought a "battery tender" trickle charger but have yet to hook it up. Anyone have experience with this? KQS
