I do not know about European experience, but IMHO parking is a very big issue in the USA. Whether it is SUVs in Texas (or CA, we have tons of them here too), shopping carts rolling accross the lot, inconsiderate asses how simply fling their doors into your car or the few who can't stand for anyone to have more than them who will key your car or worse: Parking lots are the most dangerous places for Z8s (or any other "nice" car). Like Z8 Eldred, I park, far away and still try and keep it in sight. Often hard to do since these two are often mutually exclusive.
I do have a few valet served businesses where I tip them on arrival to leave the car, clear of everyone else, upfront and undriven. Works for me.

thats a very bizarre occurance. I havent experienced that problem in mixed highway and city driving and I have 4500 miles on my car. Im hoping yours is a fluke. Youre certainly getting good service if they get you a loaner Z8!
I did have an idiot back into the front of it when I wasnt around- the bumper cover was damaged, it was a small crack. I got it replaced and the car looks as good as new.
Regarding the damage to the front of your Z8. We get that a lot in texas with all the large SUV's. They back into your car and drive off,most times being unaware.
Solution: I never park in spots that allow facing traffic. I look for end spots with curbs on the side and the front and angle into the space, sometimes using two spaces. Since it is mostly away from where the masses like to park (in front), I don't get any flack.
I intend to only park the z8 where I can see it. Of course no valet parking!!! My wife agrees for once on this issue, she says waiting three years for a car is almost like another birth in the family :)...
