Apparently BMW is aware of this problem. There is an unnecessary drain on the battery that is causing it to discharge when sitting for long periods. There is a repair that the dealer needs to do to reduce the battery drain. Bringing my car back in a couple of weeks for the mod.

I just came home after a one week vacation and found the battery completely dead also. The car has 1000 miles on it. In fact, it was so dead that even a charge from a tow truck didn't start the car right up. Had to charge it for about 10 minutes before it started. Based upon what is being said here, I will have the dealer order a new battery under warranty.

I recently purchased a 2001 Z8. It currently has 175 miles on it. I went to start it the other day and the battery was dead. I called the dealer and was told that "this is a normal occurance for this car if you don't start or drive it regularly". I hadn't started it in about a week. They said that the computers on the car are a constant drain on the battery, They then sold me an auto shut-off charger. Has anyone else heard of or experienced this problem??
