See below:

Apparently BMW is aware of this problem. There is an unnecessary drain on the battery that is causing it to discharge when sitting for long periods.
Is this an "individual" issue that occassionaly crops up or is this fault present in all the Z8s? ala a Recall?? There is a repair that the dealer needs to do to reduce the battery drain. Bringing my car back in a couple of weeks for the mod.

I just came home after a one week vacation and found the battery completely dead also. The car has 1000 miles on it. In fact, it was so dead that even a charge from a tow truck didn't start the car right up. Had to charge it for about 10 minutes before it started. Based upon what is being said here, I will have the dealer order a new battery under warranty.

I recently purchased a 2001 Z8. It currently has 175 miles on it. I went to start it the other day and the battery was dead. I called the dealer and was told that "this is a normal occurance for this car if you don't start or drive it regularly". I hadn't started it in about a week. They said that the computers on the car are a constant drain on the battery, They then sold me an auto shut-off charger. Has anyone else heard of or experienced this problem??

Thanks,

Bob
