Heres my take on your questions:
1) They say that the seats are uncomfortable and aren't good for long trips. Any comments from owners?
I find the seats in the Z8 to be some of the most comfortable car seats Ive experienced. I wish they would have put in memory seats though.
2) They noted that the wind noise with the top up is very loud and with the top down, it's like being in a wind tunnel even with the windscreen in place. Thoughts?
This is pretty much true. I havent tried the windscreen as Ive just gotten mine. The wind doesnt bother me at all- but at speeds above 65 with the top down, youll feel it. With the top up around 60+ youll really hear the top. You know what, after a while youll forget about it.
If you search, youll see that Z8 Bob pointed out that the top for the Z8 isnt as insulated as other drop tops. The reason is that in order to keep a relatively low door line on the Z8, they had to make the top as thin as possible and also they had to not build in an automatic boot cover. When you drive with the top down you should use this cover- its manual and its a bit of a pain, but with some practice you can put it on in about a minute. Apparently BMW feels that one should be driving the car in either hard top on mode or hard top off and soft top down mode. The soft top is therefore there for the summer day when a flash thunder storm comes your way and you need something to cover the interior. If this was a mass market car Id say this is shouldnt be, but for a nitche car, Im glad they gave the nod to the styling. I wish we could have our cake and eat it too, but IMHO BMW made the right call on this one.
Also, the plastic rear view window can get "fogged" from little scratches. Maguiers makes products to remove and polish these plastic windows and they work- I think the numbers are 10 and 17.
3) The center instrumentation bothered some of the drivers. Are you used to this setup now that you drive the car a lot?
Id say the weirdest thing is when you first get in and drive you look in front and theres nothing in your view except the road which lies beyond the long curves of the hood. The instruments in the center are easy to get used to, but I find that I dont need the tach so much as I can hear and feel the engine. Every now and then I want to know what the speedo says.
