My car is #34. I took delivery on 08/18/00. Got the top 03/19/01. BMW management offered to get mine sooner but I was in no hurry given our weather. Took almost as long to get the red windscreen that came in late January. BMW is catching up on hardtop delivery, they claim they will be completely caught up by the end of April and I understand that they are shipping hardtops now with ’01 cars.

The dealer was concerned that they would have to make adjustments for first time installation. Not the case. Fit right & tight the first time. Since I have had a day to drive with the top on a get a very small creak from the seals around the base when I go over small bumps. Not a serious irritation, and I suspect can be solved by dressing the seal. I am not going to bother as the top will be off and stored this weekend.

A hoist is probably not necessary, unless you need to remove and install by yourself. The top only weighs 40lbs. Two people can easily handle the job.
