The first to get the car before us Yanks! The first to go badger hunting with a Z8, and now having the S**T scared out by loud knocking. If you are not carefull you will have other firsts none of us want to contemplate.

Thank you for the warning. Better you loose a few months to fright than old, more fragile, folks like me.

Just got the Z8 back after having the front replaced due to my collision with a Badger (Medium sized wild animal) The job done by BMW UK was just fantastic....the price reasonable, and the service second to none. Well done BMW UK.

However when the car came back there was a loud knocking noise from the engine. Almost like a little end bearing knock, that remained at all engine revs. Scared me sh**less.

The cure? Apparently if the car is started without ever reaching normal temperature, (and especially with low engine oil), Air can be pumped into the Hydraulic tappets, causing the noise.

You have to run the engine at 2500 rpm at normal temp for up to 15 minutes to bleed them!!!! And maybe even two or three times for it to work. Mine took 3 mins to clear!
