harvey2, if your car is sitting that long between drives, you should consider getting a battery tender to prevent desulphation of the plates. This will really lengthen the service life of your battery.
Cars that are non daily drivers really benefit from this. Although you will have no problem without the battery tender, it is a really good idea for garage queens :).

That might explain why I haven't had the battery drain problem as I pulled the 7000 phone out of the car for use in my other bimmer. My car sits for two to three weeks between drives and I haven't had any trouble with the battery.

Thanks for the thoughts. What else I have learned:

- The dealer is kindly replacing the battery.
- They now have a bulletin on the battery drain problem is somehow related to the 7000 phone. The phone does not completely sleep except in rare instances and is responsible for the rapid draining of the battery when the car is off -- sometimes in just days. Does this make sense to others with the 7000 phone??
- I am having the phone wiring disabled for this reason and getting the 8000 phone (as a stand alone - it obviously won't work with the car without the wiring). The dealer has promised to get the 8000 wiring harness and install for a not too outrageous fee.
