I learned from Z8 Bob that your dealer usually gets a notice from the factory when the top is ready and then has to request shipment. He suggests that the top be shipped to the dealer to assist with fitting.
I get my car tomorrow sans hardtop. I hope I don't have to wait as long for mine, but frankly I don't believe I will use the hardtop much except for very long trips, maybe..
It should really be your dealer that handles this for you. Those guys at BMWNA Know very little. They are usually the last to know about stuff.

CAN ANYBODY TELL ME WHY I CANT GET INFO FOR MY HARDTOP,HAVE
2000,BOUGHT IN LATE AUGUST,CALLED BMW TWICE,I CAN FIND MORE INFO FROM THE FORUM TAN I CAN BMW CONSUMER AFFAIRS!!!!!!!
