In Reply to: is driving a BMW Z8 noisy ? posted by Jan Capoen on April 30, 2001 at 03:51:39:

High speed topless driving is going to always be more noisy than any other driving. The Z8 has more wind noise than the other cars mentioned, but like the manual boot cover, it was an intentional trade-off. Low waistline cars, with more of the driver above the windowsill are going to be louder. Personally I like the noise. For me it is part of the experience. I can carry on a conversation with the passenger fine.

Where the problems start to crop up is to have a cell phone call, top down at high speed. My question is what are you doing talking on the phone at high speed in this car?? Like the sterio, I rarely use it because I'd rather listen to the car than some less interesting "music" that everyone else is listining to.

I've read a lot of articles and reviews about the BMW Z8 and also some comparison articles ( comparing BMW Z8 with a Ferrari and Aston Martin ) where the main draw back of the BMW Z8 was the very noisy driving with and without the top ( not the hard top ). Is this so ? Can you cruise at about say 120 km/hour and talk normally with your co-driver ?
