What Gibbles says about the Z8 feeling heavy is true and false. I think that was my initial impression- but after a few thousand miles (6000+) I can tell you that the car just seems to come into its own- maybe its the suspension setteling in (I spoke with someone about this and they said it really could be) or maybe its just the driver adjusting to the car- but I can tell you that the Z8 is absolutely tossable and just simply a blast to drive. At first youre worried because of the long nose that you sit behind- it is different for most of us- and you dont exactly know how to judge the car- but once you get used to it- this car just wants to drive and to gobble up straightaways and twisties and everything else.
I can tell you how the Z8 drives compared to the older M3, which I had years ago. I felt like I could just zoom away in the older M3 from day one. In the Z8 I was a lot more conscious of the dimensions of the car for the above mentioned reasons (its expensive and beautiful and I dont want any dings). But once you get used to this car it just has so much power and poise the car sticks to the road like its glued to it (and the first 3000 miles it didnt seem to stick as well- go figure). If you can test drive a M5 you will get an inkling of what the power is like as its a very similar engine but the Z8 is a lot more of an experience to drive and feels quite a bit faster.
I really cant compare it to Porsche except to say that all these cars are obviously very fantastic and most people would love to have the "problem" of having to choose.
good luck in your quest and let us know how it works out.
