I appreciate all the advice. I am very very tempted to go for non run flats -apart from the obvious isssues (ie punctures) is there any risk to this ?

Also MILEAGE: well, they've just become illegal (yes I know but it's been lovely & dry) and the car has now done 14,500 miles. Front tyres still fine 6-7mm but rear tyres gone.

When I have more time I'll tell you about the SET UP problems I had with the car .... some of you may remember me moaning lots about the handling of the car when I first got it .... ? Not surprising - the front tracking was WILDLY out on both front wheels (and equally). Unbelievable. Car is ace now. I''ll bore you with the story some other time.
Thanks again
Adam.

Adam,
I think we are very limited right now since I think only the RE040s are available as run-flat and in the proper size.

Have you worn your tires out? If so, would you mind telling us what kind of wear (mileage) you got out of them?

I think Michelin is working on a run flat that would be in the right size.

You could go with a regular tire- but then you run the risk of a flat. As you know we dont get a spare with the Z8. If you did this- Id recommend you purchase the BMW mobile mobility kit which basically is a "patch it" kit that allows you to patch smaller tire ruptures.

Also- I dont know if you know how the tire pressure monitor works- if you dont: I believe it works using the DSC/ABS sensors and it measures tire rotation- if the rotation has a dramatic change from when it was calibrated it alerts you.
