Z8 and my dealer ordered me the CPT 8000 phone. To my knowledge the car does not come with the phone, it has to be ordered by your dealer after you choose the service provider you will use. I specified verizon and the dealer ordered a cdma BMW Motorola timeport phone. It is possible that your dealer ordered the wrong phone. BMW will take care of the replacement on their dime, but you will have to prod your dealer, if he/she is not proactive. Make sure your dealer checks that the wiring is for the 7000 phone...if you have the 8000 wiring in the car, which it should, it is not a good idea to have the 7000 plugged in.The 7000 CPT phones have been known to drain the battery. If the car has the 7000 wiring,Make sure your dealer replaces the wiring before converting to the 8000 CPT phone. If your dealer claims to be unaware, you should try contacting BMW directly and have them help you. You can also sign up and use the owners circle on the BMWNA Website to communicate with their customer service. Be patient though, I have had very mixed results from those guys. Sometimes you get great service, sometimes standard form letter responses. Keep trying though, I think it all depends on who you get on the other end and the level of his/her initiative. Good LucK. Was there supposed to be a cut over date from the CPT 7000 to the CPT 8000 phone? I just took delivery of a May 1 production Z8 and it still came with the CPT 7000. My dealer didn't seem to know anything about if this is supposed to get remedied. On top of this, the backlight doesn't appear to work on the phone at all.
